In the weeks after the Connecticut school shooting, as the nation puzzled over how it happened and what might prevent it from happening again, Kamal Sarabandi was listening to the news. Talk turned to giving teachers guns, and he paused. "I said, there must be a better way," Sarabandi recalled.

noisy wolverines The Noisy Wolverines earn the right to compete for gold 

The team called "Noisy Wolverines" made it through the first round of competition to be among the top 15 teams in the nation to compete in the DARPA Spectrum Challenge competition. They hope to take home the prize for best communication system design.


A team of four U-M students, including Sam DeBruin (BSE CE '12 and current graduate student) and Ryan Moore (BSE CE '11), formed a venture that aims to produce autonomous flying robots for infrastructure inspection.

Euisik Yoon

Prof. Yoon builds microsystems by integrating MEMS with integrated circuitry, low power signal processing and wireless telemetry. Projects highlighted in this video are BioBolt (to access neuron activity for seizure treatment); a microfluidic lab-on-a-chip for cancer and drug screening and treatment; and i-Cube, an imaging microsystem for surveillance applications.

Hybrid Racing Car


Michigan Hybrid Racing team will be unveiling their formula racecar this Sunday, April 7, from 5-8pm on North Campus. The team is in its second year of competition, and will be racing in the Formula Hybrid International Competition April 29-May 2, 2013. At the event, you will be able to meet the team and get in-depth explanations of the cars' systems from the engineering students that created them.

ISSCC 2013

The 5th Annual University of Michigan Alumni and Friends Mixer at ISSCC (International Solid-State Circuits Conference) was a great success as old and new friends gathered to discuss the day, catch up with friends, and simply relax together. Alumni in the area are always invited, and several came to reconnect with their Maize and Blue colleagues.
