Biography

I am presently a research scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Advanced Network Science Initiative. In May 2012 I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brown University under the supervision of Pascal Van Hentenryck. I am happy to be continuing my Ph.D. work as a research scientist in NICTA's Energy Systems Team. My research interests focus on how optimization algorithms can be applied to problems in power systems and disaster management. My background spans many forms of optimization including mathematical programing, constraint programming, and local search. I have a passion of optimization education and am proud to have the opportunity to work on both the Discrete Optimization and Modeling Discrete Optimization MOOCs at the University of Melbourne. This experience has cultivated my new found fascination for e-learning. Through participation in an interdisciplinary learning analytics research group, I hope to better understand how students learn in MOOCs and how instructors can provide the best learning experience online or in the classroom.
