Information Theory

Research Areas -> Communications -> Information Theory
Information theory is the study of fundamental limits of communication and data representation. Information theory analysis can determine the maximum data rate that can be reliably communicated over a channel. Another information theoretic analysis can determine the minimum data rate needed in order to represent a an information source with a given distortion when reproduced from the representation.
